Welcome in life ... wildebeest calfs - and births in the Serengeti
The massed gnu births are a truly unique natural spectacle, but the hundreds of thousands of calves that are born within just a few weeks also attract many predators to the area. From the moment they are born, newborn calves become the prey of big cats, hyenas, jackals, and other carnivores, and only the sheer number of young prevents the species from being wiped out. About two thirds of all newborn gnus survive each year. Read here more from Serengeti ecosystem.
